PANCHANGA

Panchanga means five limbs: Vaara (day), Tithi (lunar day), Nakshatra (star), Yoga (sun-moon angle), and Karana (half-tithi). Together they describe the quality and character of any given moment.

KEY TERMS
NakshatraOne of 27 lunar mansions. The moon transits one every ~day. Used for naming, muhurtas, and porutham.
TithiLunar day: 1/30th of a lunar month. Determines festival dates and ritual timing.
RahukalamA daily inauspicious window, roughly 90 minutes long. Its timing shifts by day of the week.
MuhurtaAn auspicious window for beginning important events; travel, ceremonies, contracts.
AyanamsaThe angular correction between tropical and sidereal zodiacs. Lahiri (used here) is the standard for Kerala astrology.
